All this news about Groups on Facebook and campaigns continue to raise millions for charities. Presently another such campaign initiated by Target came to an end and it donated $1 Million for the charities. All this has been made possible with the launch of a marketing campaign that Target launched keeping it focused on the recent Valentine’s Day and the Super Bowl.

The winners were awarded in relation to the number of votes each participating charity received. The stats show that Target was able to bag over 900,000 Fans on its fan page  at Facebook and more than 25,000 fans sent cards to their contacts. The amount was given on the basis of votes to the five charities which were:

  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – $490,000
  • United Through Reading Military Program – $22,000
  • Kinds In Need Foundation – $120,000

The other two charities were United Way that got $90,000 and The Salvation Army that got $80,000 in charity respectively. All these charities had been selected for they work for education and healthcare. To me it is another proof that the social network has the potential to be the most prominent method of raising cash for a noble cause and not just about having fun. This is one reason why I admire Facebook as it has helped quite a lot for almost every cause and not just brand marketing.
