A number of users today reported about the performance and availability issues with the popular social network, Facebook. Some faced slowness while loading the page, while according to some the third party desktop apps which connect to the social network became unavailable. The chat feature also became unavailable. According to an email sent by Facebook’s spokesperson to CNET:
As a result of a network device failure, a very small percentage of users lost access to Facebook for a short period of time earlier today. The site has now been restored and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Short outage? It's been inaccessible for 12 hours for me. I just keep getting a message saying that my account is unavailable “for a few hours”.

I've been able to log in to Facebook all day, it's now 1:15 and it still is returning the message “Account Temporarily Unavailable.
Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

I guess this has to do something with site maintenance. The site goes up for some time and then dies down.

Out here in Texas too…was fine this morning…now out. Did the same thing yesterday! Message says “Account Temporarily Unavailable”….

I’m in San Francisco (Twin Peaks) & have absolutely no access to Facebook. The time is now 1:40PM & I’ve had no access since going online at 1PM. All I get is a msg saying “can’t connect” or “servers down”. This is not an insignificant outage or slowdown. It’s a lengthy complete outage. What’s really going on?

10:30 PM in Dallas and FB is still displaying about 5% of content, loading like molasses. “The site has now been restored”?? Right!
