Facebook has been up at passing everything that comes in its way to success, from being the most popular social network worldwide to controversies regarding copying design or taking things to the court and failed attempts of a buy out. There is one more issue that Facebook keeps bringing forward, that of employees and more importantly execs calling it quits with Facebook.
According to Eric Eldon, the latest addition to the quit list is Benjamin Ling, who had been pulled out from Google to assist the developer platforms marketing team and had been around for a years before finally making headlines with his ‘I quit’ statement. The reason? Well there is no solid reason tipped in for the call-off but speculations point at the hiring of Elliot Schrage as Facebook’s executive in charge for public policy and communications.
Elliot himself was previously an employee of Google and Kara Swisher in her blog post has quoted Ling to be at ease with Elliot:
I have huge respect for Elliot and work well with him.
And:
Facebook is a tremendous organization, and I would not leave it if it were not for a great opportunity.
If not for a ‘greater opportunity’ what could be a greater opportunity than being a part of a social network that dominates the market? We can just speculate over this ‘great opportunity’ Ling speaks about. The official statement from Facebook for Ling’s departure is:
Facebook confirms that Ben Ling will be leaving the company in the coming weeks to pursue other interests. We wish him well and appreciate his great contributions to the early success of Facebook Platform. Platform is poised for continued growth and success, and the company is on track to deliver the range of major initiatives announced last month at f8, including Facebook Connect, fbFund and the Great Apps and Application Verification programs. Each of these programs have a strong team of professionals focused on attracting the best developers to Facebook Platform, helping developers succeed on Platform, and helping users find and enjoy great applications on Facebook.
