It happened only yesterday when the World Wide Web got the news that Facebook has changed become a fan to likes and introduced the Community Pages. With this happening, anything that is connected to a certain topic and has a discussion associated to keywords would end up being in Community Pages. The page is not an individual’s property but that of people who make it, just like your community center in a locality. But lets just move ahead of this brouhaha.

Users have already started to complain about the move. Why? Well if something goes over to the Community pages it is visible to everyone because those are public.

Wait a minute, I didn’t signup for that on Facebook!

It doesn’t matter what you signed up for. The social network has been playing with ser privacy for the last one year and has quite brilliantly or to be precise; intelligently mutilated that. And if you are so much against that, simply Unlike the page and move ahead. That isn’t user friendly at all and smells so much like a search engine hungry entity online.

The issue simply stated is:

  • Facebook has given users more options to chose their privacy settings
  • Many users are simply unaware how it works around
  • Facebook think the majority has no issues with this. since only a few complain
  • It pushes content and user information to Public in form of updates like these

I guess the tide’s over our heads. The social network has taken user trust for granted and is very securely making information public by letting users do it on their own:

Those two reasons alone should be enough to prove what’s happening and what you should be prepared for in times to come.
