image thumb17 Facebook App For Importing Contact Information Is A Nice Idea, But It Needs To Improve (A Lot)

I have had trouble with importing contacts from Facebook and always thought of ways to record my friends’ information like full name, email and contact information as a .CSV file. While I thought that was going to take quite some time, a new app has come as a solution for this ask. The app is rightly called the Export Friends to .csv which has been developed by a lone developer. And while it does help you import that information, it isn’t really that impressive.

The app lets you import information for up to 11 categories like their full names, Facebook ID, their location, gender, etc as a .csv file. And that is where my issue lies with the app. Once you get the file and open it up, it actually gives a very untidy feel, all the categories are flooded within a file separated by colons and the whole concept of importing contacts appears tiring and problematic. While users do have a choice of selecting what categories to actually import, I don’t really see the reason why the developer would include so many categories.

While I was writing this review I tried with selecting lesser categories and results were no different. I selected only the full names and the results were still provided in the same manner. I don’t mind seeing the colons, or commas, but care should have been taken in providing the .csv format in a much neater manner. No matter how much you refine that, the results are always pushed into each other and what you see is a total mess and information you download can in no way be put to use at ease, which is exactly what this app would have been planned to do. It doesn’t really give an impression that the developer really wanted to make it a big one, and appears to have rushed with quite a nice idea. I mean I haven’t really come across any app that imports Facebook contacts’ information as a .csv file. What I would advice here is that he takes the app off and restarts it from scratch making the product as effective as it has been planned to be.

Other than that, it just gives me a bit of doubt. I mean I just reported how marketers can actually get away with Friend Finder to snatch much useful information about Facebook users via fake emails. Come to think of this app, it actually accesses data using you to get all that information. Now I am not saying this is a phishing app or the like, but a clever brain out there might just utilize it for its heinous plans.
