It has come into notice that Facebook has recently been allowing Facebook Groups discussion and wall posts to pop up in Google search results. That is quite out of the norms since contrary to Facebook claims, it has quite strict privacy rules. Albeit Facebook Pages has always been publicly accessible to everyone on the WWW, and also indexed by search engines such as Google. This means your privacy is being compromised and also is being keenly picked up by marketers in recent days.
Marketers and users have been Googling-up Facebook Groups discussions and wall posts. Well they’re spending more and more time and oh-so precious energy monitoring conversations just for the obvious reason of grasping better ideas to advertise. Yep, so your conversations are actually helping their brands inside Facebook Groups. Talk about a freebie.
In Facebook Groups, currently Facebook’s own search does not allow searching discussions. Since Facebook is such a social tool not, many users may be shell-shocked over the fact that what they’re saying could turn up in Google searches. Searches about them by potential employers, friends, or members of the opposite sex.
Facebook doesn’t have a Privacy Setting that provides a ‘Groups discussion’ setting, so I’d be careful what I’d say on there. Heck, I might as well make a community about it on Facebook and rant as much as I like.
To be frank, I socialize much on Facebook Groups, let alone participate in discussions, and neither do I blog on Facebook Pages. So for those of you who do, I’d just remember that… “what Facebook users say is now visible to anyone on the web.”

You’re right, that is a little disturbing. I’m not sure if lot of people are going to be aware of their discussions being on Google. I think for students it becomes potentially more dangerous for them because of the permanence of the content.
If you’re looking for online private groups, especially through email, you can take a look at my company Convos (http://www.convos.com).
Quite so.
I’ll give it a look.
cheers
