Facebook and the 100 million users touchdown

Sardar Mohkim Khan

Facebook Facebook with all the drama conflicts that it has with its users over redesign to introducing the best and most successful applications to help improve user experience over the social network has crossed the line extending to a 100 million users. The announcement made its way via Twitter, when Senior Platform Manager, Dave Morin.

It has seen quite a lot during the times it reached this milestone; from introducing the redesign (which according to a survey revealed a yes vote by only 20% of its users as reported) to mud slinging with accusations and being accused. Whatever the case maybe; Facebook is heading head over heels towards success that too at a rapid pace.

The site still prefers to stay away from the monetization side (and yet makes a lot of cash owing to the countless applications). It is quite amusing that MySpace had touched that target a lot more quickly (3 years) compared to Facebook; which took more than four and a half years and yet MySpace trails behind Facebook in the global arena. Oh of course it beats Facebook at home. With a staggering 100 million out of which a large number falls in the active category, Facebook’s frontiers are to expand further than this number.

facebook is unique in the way it allows user generated apps to be used. I think the technical community likes anything that involves programming and that is why it has attracted a lot of interest. To lay users I think myspace and orkut still are more attractive.
