If you are one of those who still compare Facebook with MySpace, Orkut, etc you need to pinch yourself and wake up from your dream. Facebook has grown far and large and its once competing social competitors are dwarfed by it. The new comparison puts Facebook in competition with Google, in fact ahead of it.
The latest trends from HitWise state that Facebook is presently the most searched brand in the US. It tops the list at 2.80% of all searches performed over a week long survey with Google at #2 with 2.40% of total searches. Facebook, with this new result ha beaten Google in the Web scene and this result is driven only from searches performed with names, it doesn’t take into account the visitors to the particular sites. The list rolled out is pretty self explanatory and Yahoo is at #3 with a total share of 1.60%. I have stated it time and again that the entire Web would eventually come down to these two name alone, and I guess it already has, especially in the last half year or so with the ballistic rise of the social network.
What I am worried about however is that when you compare Google and Facebook in terms of growth and user satisfaction. Google has done a much better job compared to Facebook that continues to fool around with user privacy, pretty openly.
