I was just waiting for such a news to break free; Facebook all set to test its very own micropayment system. Why? Well given the success it has been amongst the social networks and great number of apps leveraging its ever powerful platform. I lack information on the matter about how long would this be tested and to what level, but VentureBeat states it would only involve a few developers. If it is so, Facebook is most probably looking forward to a universal currency associated to the user’s login, meaning all related information about payments would only need to be entered once and transactions could be made both within Facebook and across third parties using Facebook Connect. The idea in itself is pretty interesting, given that the social network hasn’t really ticked off at making gains as it should have so far.

Given the Zynga is reporting nine figure revenues from microtransactions, the better question remains…why hasn’t facebook jumped on this train early?

Slowly Facebook is realizing how much can it actually capitalize on what it is. We aren’t sure why as well, maybe bringing in professionals into the team has kicked off these new ideas.
