Europeana, Europe’s answer to Google Book Search, that was to be launched today has got an overwhelming response from users all over Europe. Soon after its launch their web servers gave in as the site was stormed by more than 10 million hits in just an hour – this is still the case, as I am unable to access the site.
Jill Cousins, Europeana’s director thinks that its one step ahead of Google Book Search:
If you go onto Google, you don’t always know what you’re getting … Here you do. The institutions have been here for hundreds of years and they know what they’re talking about and that’s what you’re getting out of it.
