Devices like Kindle have made ebooks popular among the masses, this comes with technology advancements and increasing demands to own the must-have gadgets and accessories. In fact Kindle become so popular that Amazon went out of stock, and advance bookings are being made if you want to own one.
This gave way for other brands to step up and provide an alternative, as Sony did – bringing in its Reader that’s readily available in the market. President of Sony’s digital reading division Steve Haber states:
The perception is that e-books have been around for 10 years and haven’t done anything.
But it’s happening now. This is really starting to take off.
What’s surprising is that these products have become a hit with the age group of 55 – 64 year olds (book lovers of course).
We believe the eBook market is growing 400% (per quarter!) while the overall book market is lanquishing at 1% year over year growth. As long as eBook purchases remain strong like they are, all the publishers will come around. This is the different between HD television and regular. Once “big” readers figure out how to download and consume eBooks, there will be a mad rush to eReaders and online downloadable eBook content.
