Is there something ‘in’ about accusations and taking things to the court these days? Or is it something to do with making news? Whatever the case maybe; Software and Information Industry Association is all geared up to sue eBay for the sales of Pirated software as reported by Grant Gross.
Senior Vice President of the SIIA’s anti-piracy division, Keith Kupferschmid said:
If eBay continues to stiff-arm us … then we will certainly consider litigation as an option.
This has been said so after SIIA offered quite a lot of suggestions to eBay for kicking out the sales of pirated software and eBay’s rejection of the proposed suggestion. The ground for which is eBay’s VERO (Verified Rights Owner) programmer that enables right owners to have their items removed from eBay’s listings. As Nichola Sharpe (spokeswoman for eBay) said:
We can’t be the experts on what’s fake or not. We’re not the experts on counterfeits.
So far SIIA has filed 32 lawsuits against eBay sellers for software counterfeit. With the most recent case sentenced for four years for selling such an item.
