Dopplr_logoDopplr, a travel-focused social network, raised an undisclosed amount of money in an all-Angel round of funding. The Helsinki-based social network was upped recently as an investor group led by well-known technology industry insider, Esther Dyson, raised the company’s funds.

Apart from Dyson, Xing founder Lars Hinrichs, de.lici.ous founder Joshua Schachter; Saul Klein, formerly of Skype (currently with Index Partners and Seedcamp) invested again; he was joined by Martin Varsavsky, Reid Hoffman and Joichi Ito.

Dopplr, started by CEO Lisa Sounio, allows users to share their travel plans and experiences with each and other. Although the company is focusing on Europe – growing its base there, this new round of funding will bring help to expand Dopplr globally.

The company stated that they can make the ads on their network more effective. How? Well when users tell Dopplr about their travel plans, most of them haven’t booked the hotel, or haven’t made any travel arrangements. That’s brings in the hotels marketing, where they can put up their attractive messages.

Even though all this is in occurrence, Dopplr has a long way to go for it to become main-stream. As you never know when travel search engines would decide to stuff in their own Dopplr-kind products to attract more market and provide ease of use. Mobissimo is one example, as it recently launched its MobiFriends, a service that’s quite similar to Dopplr.
