The online document sharing space is getting heated with the passage of time. Docstoc, which is fiercely competing with YCombinator funded Scribd in the battle to become Youtube for online documents, has released some new updates to the document sharing service.
The new features allow you to upload private documents on to Docstoc with the ability to monitor and closely track the usage of these private documents. Although Docstoc thrives on public documents, these new features will allow content creators more control and insight into who is viewing the documents, email information, the ability to email these documents, and the ability to lock the documents for viewing online.
Once you send a document to someone who isn’t using the service, he/she gets a prompt to enter their personal information before they are actually presented with the document. Allen Stern thinks of this to be a matter of concern, since every Joe in town now asks for personal information even when the matter could be handled without getting those private bits of information.
