We had earlier reviewed Digimeld, a portal that lets you deliver video programming to a large audience globally or across a selected region, after raising $2 million in its first round of funding has now launched Internet video streaming. The tests for the new technology have been conducted with the aid of NASA’s TV network.
This has been called Grid-Streaming; a concept that implements two different requests to handle stream that is on demand as well as live. Here each on of them is enhanced with respect to their performances.
What this system does is to enable every user to view, retrieve and share streaming videos along with others. He differentiating factor here is that Digimeld only stores a part of the video being streamed on users’ hard drive while the rest of it is done so upon their own servers. The advantage of doing so is to improve bandwidth usage and also protect piracy of downloaded items by continuously rewriting newer streams over the old ones.
With bandwidth usage being a primary concern for network operators (Comcast for one), when it comes to the mammoth amount of videos being shared and downloaded by clients, Digimeld provides relief to both the providers and consumers. Along with that, Digimeld provides consumers with added Publishing tools:
-
Search Engine Optimization: To help viewers locate publishers’ content via search engines.
-
Flexible ad-insertion: with modules like pre-poll, mid-roll, picture in picture etc to ease ad-insertion.
-
Self Publishing: Enabling users to create their own customized playlist and channels.
-
Interactivity: Modules that add more to viewers experience by enabling features like chat, discussions in forums to enhance user loyalty.
-
Viewers Stats and Reporting: Giving publishers ease at determining the number of viewers by location, age and gender.
I guess the Digimeld team is set to provide its users with more quality and better bandwidth usage.
