microsoft-thumb Digg, Reddit, del.icio.us. Say hello to Microsoft. As if we didn’t have enough social bookmarking websites already, Microsoft has decided to jump in. John Martin, the Lead Evangelist for Server & Tools Online (STO) at Microsoft, made a post on his blog announcing the release of a preview version  of Social Bookmarks for both MSDN and Technet and they’re going to showcase it at TechEd North America next week.

While the preview will not have full functionality (it is also English-only), it will allow members of the community to…

  • Bookmark any URL on the web

  • Apply tags

  • Save bookmarks in the new My Bookmarks tool

All bookmarks, bookmarkers, and tags will also be enabled as links and can be “surfed” to discover new content and people.

Social bookmarks will also be integrated into the new Profile page and give every member of the community a great new way to increase their visibility, impact, and influence.

Although, this is going to be for MSDN and Technet only to start with, ( Image of test build below) I can bet it’ll find it’s way very soon outside of there own websites. Social Bookmarking has a huge following, and Microsoft will have a good chance of gathering a huge user base by integrating it with it’s already available and popular products under the Windows Live brand. We’ll have to just wait and see how it turns out. We’ll keep you updated on this new product by Microsoft at Startup Meme.2516868766_de0453be60_o
