DEMOfall 08: Qtask – a unified collaboration environment for your business

qtask_logoQtask showed off its collaboration software at the DEMOfall ‘08 conference in San Diego. Founded as Prolific in 2003 and upgraded as Qtask in July 2007, joins a number of companies that are offering new methods of collaborating online. A new-comer in project and portfolio management, Qtask has some ground to cover, as competition is tough. Top competitors being: Microsoft Project & Microsoft Sharepoint.

Qtask’s core function, the organizing principle, is personal and team accountability, which removes the confusion over who’s responsible for what. The CEO & cofounder of Qtask, Russel Mix, states that the software is designed to let cross-disciplinary teams collaborate across multiple locations. My guess is it’ll work great for companies working offshore projects, of course for other teams too.

Work on the project; any changes made, are instantly updated. Each team member has instant access to other team members’ changes. On the better side, records are also kept for all communications. As well as, discussions are automatically organized, counting on the project or the current topic, which makes things it a lot easier to stay in touch.

Mix further states that:

There is no tool today that has all those services so nicely and efficiently together. You can tie everything to everything.

There’s an automatic version control on the software which makes it harder to lose documents and easier to view changes made to documents. The project team participants can log into the site enabling them to use it as the software as a service. There’s no installation or customization required to work with the software. Whether PCs, Macs, or cell phones, works on everything without a hassle. Adding features such as a dashboard, wikis, file sharing, RSS syndication and compliance requirements can be easily done.

Okay so now for the real deal. It’s free for the first 5 users, on one account, for the first year – with five hours of training included. Additional costs are $50/month/user. The company is supposed to add new features and services over the next 6 months.
