Snipd is a web annotation service which lets you grab bits and pieces of content from any page and save them to your Snipd page. The content can range from videos and images to text, and shared in just a click. The content can also be used in blogs to share with their readers and point them to other ‘hot-content’.
Snipd only needs a bookmarklet to work. It is a bit like Delicious, only much more cooler. It becomes a destination for users, rather than a list of bookmarks.
With more and more content to sift through these days, Snipd makes it easier to identify hot-zones in articles. Hot-zones are dumbed-down heat maps for content. Readers can forget skimming and focus on what people are Snipping most on any page. Because a snip is an implicit vote on a piece of content, we aggregate and figure out what area of an article is attracting the most attention.
This could be very useful for us bloggers, as well as people who want a more visual method of bookmarking content and sharing it with other users. It reminds a bit about the Facebook Share feature which has turned out to be very popular and is really used by many.
Apart from this, there aren’t many details on Snipd yet. The service is currently in private alpha. We’ve requested for an invite and will review it once we get in.
