There has a been a lot of cry and hue for quite sometime over actions been taken by the anti piracy group to have ISPs take an action against customers involved in downloading content that violates copyright laws. Many ISPs have put this down stating that they can’t control what the customers download and what not, while many more have simply warned their customers about the request they have at their hands.
Of all these Cox Communications has taken a jump and really heeded the warning well by pulling down their customer’s connections, who are part of copyrights violation.
With its subsribers hitting around 3.5 million, the action appears quite confusing as the customers aren’t forwarded any mail that notifies them about the DMCA notification, or any such warning. Cox Communications believes in direct action, the customer learns the reason for disconnection when one visits a warning page that reads:
Under the DMCA, we have the responsibility to temporarily disable your Internet access, until such time as you take the necessary steps to remove the infringing files and to prevent further distribution of copyrighted material
It should be noted however that DMCA does or asks Cox to pull the n=connection of their customers. The notification is important and customers need to be warned, the failure to heed such notification may then be dealt with disconnection.
