comscorelogo thumb comScore: “More than 600 million people interact with widgets now” Center Networks is reporting that comScore will be publishing their latest report on the state of Widgets today. According to the report “A total of 615 million people, representing 65% of the worldwide Internet users, viewed or engaged with a widget in June 2008.”

This clearly is a huge number, but given the fact that almost every other web page on the Internet uses a widget these days, it falls on the lower side of the equation. As a matter of fact the page that you are viewing at the moment has more than half a dozen widgets embedded (FeedBurner, BlogUpp, RevResponse, Google Adsense, Friendfeed, MyBloglog, BlogCatalog, whos.amung.us and Google Analytics)

The comScore report does not detail what it considers to be a widget and if a widget needs to be viewable by the user. Because the Google Analytics script embedded in this page is not viewable to our users and is in fact not meant to be for everyone.

According to the report Giya.com leads the lot with 150 million users viewing its widgets in June 2008. Its interesting to note here that Giya is not a widget platform per see, rather provides services like distribution, monetization and analytics to widget providers. Second in the list is Slide which is a photo sharing service but has a widget to embed its photos on different sites and social platforms.
