
last.fm ,our favorite online music app, has released its list of the most popular songs, artists in online music for 2008. And if you are a COLDPLAY fan, then you could cheer and rejoice as Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, is leading album being streamed by over 3 million with 6 songs of the album in the top 10 songs. Coldplay’s Viva la Vida was also declared as the biggest selling iTunes album download of 2008.
Yeah you could definitely remember the Billboard singles chart when the Beatles enjoyed the same number of tracks being within the top 10 in April 1964!
The thing to see in technological perspectives here is that online data collection via last.fm could be used for better service for users. Last.fm uses Scrobbler technology which tracks what users listen to on a variety of media players – such as iTunes, Songbird, Hype Machine, Blip.fm.
With over 25m users last.fm proves again that using internet as a promoting technology and using the data for providing more useful services to users could lead onto not only artists getting recognition but companies earning more profits.
