image thumb217 Cisco has its eyes set at JabberJabber an open source IM and presence control protocol appears to have  made Cisco bite wisdom by making it realize the how important it is to collaborate with existing media in the present world. Cisco has announced its plans at acquiring the the privately held firm for an undisclosed amount in order to enhance its current messaging and presence features.

The deal would also make it possible for Cisco to embed Jabbers services in its own network and increase efficiency for its services including on demand solutions. In its press release, Cisco stated:

With the acquisition of Jabber, we will be able to extend the reach of our current instant messaging service and expand the capabilities of our collaboration platform. Our intention is to be the interoperability benchmark in the collaboration space.

The reason to get its hands at Jabber is primarily that Jabber provides the best presence and messaging solutions to various platforms and systems including Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Office Communications Server etc. With Jabber taking the lead in the market with its global distribution, Cisco complies full with its strategy to build, buy and partner.
