Christano Ronaldo, one of Portugal’s most popular footballer, is now the most popular sports star on Facebook, according to sports daily Marca. The flamboyant footballer who plays as a winger for Real Madrid and serves as a captain of the Portuguese national team has more than 3.2 million fans on Facebook.
Besides holding the distinction of being the most popular sports star on Facebook, Ronaldo has the honors of being the most expensive player in football history after having transferred to Real Madrid in a deal worth £80 million (€94m, US$132m). Ronaldo is also the most profitable player ever in Real Madrid’s history, which had such stars as Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham, generating 80 million euros in advertising revenues per year.
Ronaldo’s 3.2 million facebook fans puts him ahead of other sports luminaries, such as the Swiss Tennis legend Roger Federer with 3.18 million fans and US swimmer Michael Phelps with 2.86 million fans.
