Facebook’s platform is not so robust when it comes to security or advertising for that matter. However, since the general users don’t care much about how they make money, they are left with security concerns to look into.
Apparently they are not doing a good job at it either. Facebook has been caught advising its users about security, something that they don’t follow. Facebook started asking its users to not share their password with anyone. This is something that Facebook itself asks its users to do when it asks them to enter the passwords for Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other services to pull their contacts from.
It looks like Facebook was busy dispersing that advise for an obvious reason. It has come under serious attacks from people and groups around the world. The latest in the series of such attacks is a series of phishing attacks that have been mounted from China. The socially connected nature of Facebook users have allowed these attacks to spread virally. More worrying is the the fact that these attacks have increased in sophistication.
Apparently Firefox’s default security warning of “Get me out of here” is also not working on this attack. The URL of the phishing site is www.faceilbook.com. If you need to know how the phishing attack works than you should be aware of any message from your friend or anyone else asking you to login, because if you did you will be compromising your identity. It will get worse if you have the same userid’s and passwords for other social profiles and potentially catastrophic if that’s the case with your financial services like Paypal and Google Adsense etc.
We are keeping our fingers crossed on this one, it sure will hit a hell lot of people.
