An interesting concept has been brought forward by firefly. They allow you to chat with other visitors of the website you’re browsing as long as they support firefly.
The execution of this idea is very simple and effective as well. It creates a shaded overlay on the website and then you can click anywhere and type your message and done! It’s that simple and easy. But as easy it is, there aren’t any popular websites supporting firefly that I know of so far. Even their own website didn’t have anyone to chat at the time of this review.
The options of this service aren’t bad either. These options include sound notifications, special effects ( for eye candy purposes ) and also avatars for each user. It also gives admin options right there on the page so you wont have to dig deep into settings to find administrative options.![]()
The orange theme is also very pleasing on the eyes. But one gripe I have with this is that when you enable the chat features, the website becomes inactive in the background which just kills the discussion part of this service. Users who are most likely to browse websites together through this service wouldn’t be pleased as using an instant messenger software would provide better results and allow you to multitask better. But then again, you wont be able to talk to strangers on the websites you’re browsing which is really the first purpose it’s fulfilling.
Overall, it’s an interesting concept and could prove to be useful if they work more on it and not disable the links of the website while chatting with other users. But till that time, firefly can serve very well as a tool for providing real time support on a website through their chat.![]()
