etsy_yahoo logoChad Dickerson, Head of Yahoo’s Brickhouse project, is leaving Yahoo to work with Etsy as a CTO. Chad joined Yahoo as an Exec of Yahoo! Hack Program and Yahoo! Developer Network. During his three years journey, he played an active role in company’s development and was among the most important company’s pillar that has successfully pivoted Yahoo’s building. Former GM of Yahoo! Video, Mike Folgner is expected to take Dickerson’s position of Brickhouse’s head.

Etsy is an online marketplace for buying and selling all handmade things. The site works as a strong web to connect buyers and sellers to have a better collection with awesome set of choices. Maria, the new CEO of Etsy has highly appreciated Dickerson’s joining as a Chief Technology Officer and praised him as one of the talented men who is highly experienced and will be able to maintain Etsy’s creative, quirky and independent culture. She added:

I am thrilled to announce that Chad Dickerson will join Etsy in Brooklyn as Chief Technology Officer September 1, 2008.  As Etsy’s CTO, Chad will be the company’s top technology executive and will join Rob, me and the Etsy team in helping to shape Etsy’s strategic direction, development, and future growth.  Chad will manage our entire technical organization, including application development, network infrastructure and quality assurance.  He will report to me.

While Dickerson is equally excited and ambitious to go back to New York City as he has some personal memories and old friends in the largest city. He has also thanked Yahoo! team and colleagues by expressing his gratitude to all of them who are full of talent and have been a great help during his Yahoo!’s journey.

In each of those roles, I’ve had a unique opportunity to get to know many people inside and outside of Yahoo! Literally hundreds of people were helpful and supportive of me at Yahoo! so I am reluctant to list names. I spent a few hours on a list of people to thank and realized when I hit 150 that it was too unwieldy — the list included everyone from well-known execs to the groundskeepers who made sure the lawn sprinklers didn’t come on during Open Hack Day.

Jeremy Zawodny, Ex- Technology Evangelist at Yahoo, has considered his departure as a great loss for the company and even a greater gain for Etsy. He praised Dickerson’s work and company by saying:

Chad and I worked together in various capacities for a few years at Yahoo! and he truly made a mark there, kicking off Hack Days, helping put the Yahoo! Developer Network on the right track, and generally kicking ass. Seriously. Ask anyone who worked with Chad.

Though the things seems to be stable now as Yang has democratically offered a seat to Icahn in Yahoo’s Board to stop the ceaseless war existing between both parties and is also hiring some new blood to surpass the Yahoo’s egress figure but bitter truth is, the sudden departure of key persons vigorously shake the company from inside out making it more vulnerable to news headlines and strategically melting managerial structure of the beleaguered company.
