Blip comes with an idea of letting users on Twitter know what exactly you are listening at the moment by enabling you to include the actual MP3 you are playing.
Blip along with this has done one great thing to delight Twitter users is to introduce self-refreshing; something that freshens up the tired users of the need to hit the refresh button for continual updates (sounds pretty helpful already).
I thought I will have to upload my own playlist and wait hours for the magic to begin but that’s not the case here. You just have to search for a song by the name or by artist (if you have one whose songs you never miss), browse through the list have a preview of the song before Blipping it. Once Blipped you are required to enter a message (you have to type in letters else it will keep loading the page till eternity).
I found that pretty irritating; the compulsion to write what you are doing after a tiring day with barely enough energy to move the mouse around. Plus the interface is so much like Twitter that I feel like falling off my chair but that doesn’t take the credit away from Blip. The idea to let others listen not just know what you song you are loosing yourself in adds some life to the ‘to let others know what you are doing’ syndrome.
Blip, plays your song, tells others what you are doing, add information about the track you are listening to, gives you a choice to buy your MP3, and more importantly keeps you connected to the Social network we surfers so dearly value.
On the contrary; could this somehow turn out to be a problem for artists? Well I asked this myself and the answer (like it matters when I have no music of my own) was why it would? All it can do is let the fans have a taste of their favorite artists’ work; there is no such thing as violation of copyright laws, as Blip doesn’t allow upload/download of music.
With almost half an hour spent at this site I almost forget last.fm! Isn’t that a much better option for users like me who maintain a home made playlist of the favorite songs; not only from their music library but simple software once downloaded, you can scrobble your tracks, share your music taste and get to hear personalized radio streams. Plus it has got a more alluring layout, something that I so badly need after going through a countless dull websites.
Their idea might just be to beat Twitter with Blip-er and if that is so, I doubt we will see any improvement in the layout and more importantly the functionality.
