Just a warning – if you’re thinking of using someone else’s artwork as your avatar, think again… as it may be copyrighted. As one incident occurred recently, which I happen to stumble across, where Takashi Murakami emailed the person using his artwork as an avatar. Murakami sent the shakedown letter asking $500 for using the copyrighted image!
The letter included the following text (now is that a threat or what?):
“Thank you, and I hope you will take this into consideration as I know myself this can get very unnecessary!”
