Beijing Olympic Organizers: “Website blocking is for your own good”

Responding to questions as to why sites such as Free Tibet and those covering the Tiananmen Square Massacre were blocked, the Vice-President Organizing Committee BOCOG told that they had promised free access to websites except for a few that undermine the security and healthy growth of Chinese youth.

IOC chief Jacques Rogge said that the problem with Internet access should not have occurred and a further review of this issue will be undertaken after the conclusion of the Games (August 8-24). He however refused to apologize claiming the IOC does not run the Internet in China.

While it is unappreciable to limit usage rights, it is also appreciable to note that the Chinese govt. itself is taking steps of parental guidance.
