According to Google App Engine Blog, Google has uplifted the registration limit of App Engine usage today. With the base already expanded to 75,000 developers; the move has come to facilitate another 80,000 consumers. “.. we are opening the flood gates–now anyone who wants to use App Engine can give it a try!”, according to Paul McDonald.
With this Google has also announced pricing for applications that are estimated to exceed free quota of of 500 MB of storage and around 5M page views per month.
- $0.10 - $0.12 per CPU core-hour
- $0.15 - $0.18 per GB-month of storage
- $0.11 - $0.13 per GB outgoing bandwidth
- $0.09 - $0.11 per GB incoming bandwidth
Although Google App Engine is currently limited to provide extended infrastructure capabilities but it is expected to be operational in this regard sometime later in this year. This answers many questions raised on the limitations of Google App Engine offerings in this post of Michael Arrington.
With extended capabilities in the offing, Google App Engine must address the bond with Python as the only scripting language. According to user feedback in the same post, it sure is a high-entry barrier for the pre-developed applications.
Python adoption can and will increase if one is writing application from the scratch but a substantial amount of developers who have already created applications in other languages like Rails, PHP will keep it for future reference.
