Ballhype a service that just launched today is a Digg for Sports fans. We already have a Digg in multiple languages, a Digg for tutorials, a Digg for Photos, Slashdot also wanted to look like Digg, and now finally the sports fan should have their diggish lust put to rest with Ballhype.

Ballhype is a social news and networking site that tracks more than 1,600 sports blogs to find great content. Users can also submit stories, vote on them and add comments. They have also taken good care of categorization which is of major importance in a service targeting sports, since a Soccer fan might not be interested in Squash or people might want to just track local sports stories.

Ballhype also allows users to add friends, create groups and leave comments on games, which have their own separate pages. Users can also bet on which team might win and depending upon the outcome the winner gets more points. This is one feature on which an entire company has been launched this week. Ballhype also offers a customizable frontpage, just like you have in your personal startup pages, to add local sports, stats etc. This service will definitely receive a lot of attention and love from Sports fans. There blog is here and a demo is here

All I am doing for a while now is typing headings like these “XXX is a Digg for XXX“. I wonder when this Digg obsession will stop or when we could finally all possible service combinations of Digg. Using the Digg like voting mechanism and applying it in innovative ways is definitely not a bad idea. There is so much that could be changed by the utilization of this technique or simply put the by empowerment of Users.
