I always use to hear this from my dad ‘You need to have a PR in order to expand’. This was almost 15 years back, when the Web hadn’t really evolved to what it is at present and his PR meant meeting people in real life. I wasn’t into all this, meeting people, chatting with them let alone the idea of using them to expand. Never really understood the idea. But in comes the Boom and we have the Online World, a.k.a Social Networks and I am writing a blog for passion and always on the lookout to expand it to the readers all across the globe. I understand the need to socialize, to build up a PR and the Web has taught me this. Surprising as many a gurus have benefited from the real life PR to grow into what they are on the Web, I am taking a different direction and I bet there are many out there who are doing exactly what I am, perhaps in a much refined manner.
I would ask a question to myself as well as the readers out there, Why exactly is there a need to socialize? Perhaps I have answered the question vaguely enough in the earlier part of this post and it all comes down to the very basic: Socialize to Expand. And it’s not just related to finances or user base, it primarily brings to you the wealth of information, opinion from the countless people out there, majority of whom you might never meet in real life, but you learn a lot from them. To be honest, three years back Facebook was just a mean for me to connect with friends, that’s it and I didn’t even feel like using Twitter. But the present is quite different. Facebook is still holding on to its primary definition that I had stitched, but it connects me not just with my college mates, instead it brings me closer to those who share similar passions. I use it to learn from them, be informed and stay up-to-date as well as letting them know what I am doing. Now that doesn’t mean I inform them about what I am eating or something, rather sharing what bit of information I have to give to my network. And people are learning of a meaningless existence out there who has something to talk about, something they find worthy to have been shared with.
I know I am writing from a very immature perspective, but that’s how I want it to be, because I see people around me who have glued Facebook, Orkut, MySpace to just Connect. It has changed, I see a difference in use, I interact. I wasn’t this way, nor were many people too, but it begun slowly and now is a vital part of our lives. We have businesses defining strategies to put Social Media to use, we have Blogs using these to promote and build up a user base, inform and learn. We have college students learning from online video sites, we have amateur videos swarming in at YouTube. A bulk of information that is to large for anyone to grasp and absorb, yet it keeps growing, expanding, always emphasizing on The Need of Social Media~
