Awarepoint, a San Diego based startup that develops real time location aware systems, has raised $13.3 million in fourth round of funding from Cardinal Partners and was joined by Venrock Ventures and Avalon Ventures. Awarepoint solutions use RFID and sensor technologies to provide location, status and movement visibility of both equipment and people, allowing for real-time remote monitoring of critical resources. Awarepoint’s solutions is specially being used by hospitals to find out about lost, stolen and misplaced equipment.

“For hospital administrators, there’s little worse than spending precious capital resources on equipment they may not even need. With actionable information regarding the location and status of the equipment they already own, hospitals are able to reallocate existing capital budget dollars, or simply reduce their capital equipment and rental expenses. Today’s challenging economic times make this more important than ever before,” said Jason Howe, CEO at Awarepoint.
