Anvato, a startup that applies the latest computer machine vision to content protection and contextual advertising, has raised $550,000. The amount will be used to start a video search service that will allow publishers to find copyright video violators.
The startup has got backing from Ziff-Davis former president and Softbank Forums founder, William Lohse, former Ziff-Davis Interactive Media President, Jeff Ballowe and Ogden Capital.
According to the company, it uses the technology called ‘perceptual signature’ which functions just like normal human eye i.e. it classifies scenes, objects and movements in a video. Also it doesn’t require digital watermarking. The California based company has so far found 2,000 infringing videos.
During the last six months, company’s search was limited to those programs that were aired on one broadcast network during the prime-time. With this new round of funding the company will take the technology to the next level. Copyright is certainly an issue in many countries and in the current scenario, it cannot be completely stopped, but it can be restricted to an extent. This technology will certainly help in fighting copyright issues related to videos.
