Yamli, a service that provides Arabic front-end to Google has released some cool new features for their search engine. Check out the video above for the new features. The Cambridge, Massachusetts based startup is funded by ex-Googlers. The service allows users to enter a word in Latin format and then translates it into Arabic.
New York based local news and discussion startup Outside.in has raised an undisclosed amount in a round of funding from existing investors. This round of funding will hopefully prove fruitful in the current financial scenario. According to the company, this year the traffic on the site has increased 400% between January and November which is not bad specially when its a startup. The round was participated by all existing investors including Union Square Ventures, the New York City Investment Fund, Betaworks and Milestone Venture Partners.
We know that most part of the Google’s browser Chrome is written by Google programmers, but just after it became public, the search engine giant started acknowledging patches from non-Googlers. Now an outsider contributor has become an official Googler. Pawel Hajdan Jr., a computer science student from University of Warsaw has been given the right to add code to the project through a process known as committing.
Google guidelines indicates that becoming a committer is not an easy task. The guideline says:
Couple of years back, HopeLab, a nonprofit organization released a shooter game Re-Mission for cancer affected teenagers. The purpose was to make the kids stick to their medication. In a publication in journal Pediatrics, it has been proved that the game did help the kids fight against the disease. According to the journal, kids who played the game for an hour a week were highly expected to follow their medication.
Walmart the popular store has developed an iPhone specific application. If you access the homepage of Walmart from the iPhone, you will be greeted with an iPhone specific portal that will help you with your shopping. You will be able to browser through different categories and products in them, access the recent product specials, search for a local store/product and see a $4 approved prescriptions.
This Christmas a number of people will be unhappy due to unemployment but Amazon workers will have to work more now. According to a report by Sunday Times the employees are required to work a night shift on Saturday besides the regular hours. Sick leave even with a note from doctor is also banned. The penalty system will also be effective which means that six strikes and you’re out with respect to days off to recover. There will also be “bonus” payments just to fulfill the formality, which will be subject to almost impossible performance. Workers will have to pack up 140 XBOX consoles per hour in order to be eligible for the bonus.
