ImageShack raised $15 million from Sequoia Capital, which would definitely help better the media hosting site’s quality of service. The Los Gatos Calif.- based startup has planned to earn its revenue from a combination of affordable subscriptions and advertising, chief executive Jack Levin mentions. The data provided by comScore above shows a total of 32.7 million visitors on the ImageShack site in the month of September, up only by 5 percent from last year. Though coming in at no. 6 with the top guns in the business does indicate that the startup is improving, slowly.

att logo AT&T acquires Centennial Wireless for $944M

Telco giant AT&T acquired Centennial Wireless yesterday, a carrier with a subscriber base of just 1.1 million. The N.J.-based carrier was bought for $944 million, probably with AT&T’s aim to achieve a wider market and expand on it’s iPhone coverage. AT&T would now be able to fill holes in its network, and provide subscribers with roaming facilities through Centennial’s network (for e.g., in Midwest, Southeast, and Puerto Rico).

Google Chrome is soon to improve its bookmark management by adding many features, and those shall be available in a update of the service. The features include a prominent one, that of a bookmark manager; it lets you find bookmarks, and move them to a new folder, and works to delete a large number of bookmarks. Options are also available to import bookmarks from an HTML file, and also to export bookmarks. You could find these from the Tools drop-down menu. While also, you can import bookmarks from Google Bookmarks.

China has been known to have a strong hand over censoring content available to its public, on the Internet, however this recent happening changes everything. Several reports came in from China, reporting that popular BitTorrent sites like Mininova, isoHunt, and The Pirate Bay had been hijacked, making them inaccessible and redirecting to Baidu – a leading Chinese search engine. People in the Beijing area were unable to log onto these sites (as well as VeryCD) as they were promptly redirected to Baidu. bigstage logo Avatar yourself with Big Stage Big Stage recently launched its personal avatar virtualization service, giving users a chance to make their own unique ‘@ctor’, and other social sharing features as well an updated media player. The @ctor feature is a user’s 3D facial representation, titled as The Digital You, where it can be animated as well using the Big Stage Media Player. The process of @ctor involves 3 photographs of you which have to be uploaded, and then they go through the ‘advanced stereo reconstruction’ converting you into an actor.

The startup however requires you to download its media player to make things work, and runs only on Windows XP and Vista, with Internet Explorer 6+ and Firefox 2+ as the browsers that are supported for the site.

The iPhone is a product that has captured the market completely – but knowing that has it got the reliability, even more than BlackBerry? Lets find out. A study by SquareTrade reveals that after an year of ownership, the least malfunctions were reported in iPhones, smartphones. SquareTrade deals in selling extra warranties for cell phones and other devices and came to this conclusion after handling 15,000 smartphones under its plan. Malfunctions for the iPhone, after an year, came out as 5.6 percent – whereas the figure was 11.2 percent for BlackBerry. Treo came at 16.2 percent.

Battery problems turned out to be surprisingly less for the iPhone, than the other two brands – less than 0.5 percent of iPhones malfunction due to battery issues, compared to 1 percent for the BlackBerry and Treo. Though for all three smartphones, the area of trouble lies in the touchscreen and keyboard, especially the iPhone in particular (iPhone 3G as well). Also, the other reason for iPhone to malfunction has been reported as the owner treating it with less care, and end up dropping it, or spilling coffee on it! These accidents rate 12 percent for the iPhone, and 9 percent for all other phones.
