A Canadian company known as Mine Clearing Corp (MCC) has brought forth the latest in radiometry technology to search out landmines from the air. MCC acquired license for the technology which makes it easier to locate and map landmines, and which works three times faster from the air – available at half the price of ordinary means of detection.
It’s an estimate that a 100 million landmines are still scattered around parts of 80 countries – these estimates, taken by the UN, show that a landmine take a person’s life every 20 minutes. The technology would vastly change the clean-up effort and cut down on spending. Developed by Roke Manor Research Ltd; MD of the company, David Smith states:

A new course is being offered at Stanford lately: CS193P, the iPhone Application Programming. Students from the Fall 2008 batch have come up with a few fresh iPhone apps, some of which are up on the App Store, and some are on the way. Here’s a list of the eight so far:
Move, an online real estate website is looking to have former Microsoft senior VP Steve Berkowitz on board as the company’s next CEO. Berkowitz will take over from W. Michael Long, who’s due to retire. Chairman of Move, Joe Hanauer stated:
mEgo raised $2.5 million in a funding round, though the VC was undisclosed. mEgo deals in Flash-based avatars which include avatars from social network profiles as well.
4INFO received $20 million in funding from Peacock Equity and Gannett. The mobile marketing network provides weather updates, sport scores and other information through text messages. 4INFO is able to provide these services through collaboration with Yahoo, InterActionCorp. and Gannett, among others.
4INFO’s service also includes small ads, and sees further improvement in business this year as mobile-message ads business went up 62% from last year (according to eMarketer).
Free hosting blogging platform CoverItLive launched a CoverItLive Enterprise for major online news outlets. Now sites are able to maintain one blog page with a live blog window. The new service provide bloggers to leave alone the embedding issues and concentrate on creating a story, through CoverItLive’s simple tool.
The Inauguration Day saw people viewing proceedings from video-streaming sites and services, making it an all-time high record in the Web’s history. Content delivery network Akamai Technologies provided stats showing that 7.7 million video streams took place, of which a higher number included live streaming.
As the proceedings unfolded, most people in the U.S. were at work, and hence the streaming alternative was chosen. Akamai’s executive VP of global sales and marketing, Robert Hughes stated:
