As noted by Chris Pendleton, at the Virtual Earth Blog, Ask.com has dropped it’s own mapping service in favor of Virtual Earth. Virtual Earth is already operational on the maps.ask.com domain, as well as other Ask.com services such as Business Search, Smart Answers as well as Movies Search. Bird’s Eye View has also been implemented by Ask.com which doesn’t come as a surprise as it’s a much touted feature of Virtual Earth.
Ask.com has joined the list of websites that use Virtual Earth, which already has the likes of City Of Miami, Target, Harley-Davidson, YellowPages.com and many more.
This move has really tightened up the competition between Google and Microsoft in the mapping arena, as both companies have aggresively pushed their mapping services towards developers and the developers have responded well to both. And as we all know, competition benefits the consumer.
