Apps That Do Anything For Promotion: Facebook Really Needs To Do Something Here

I was going across the applications on Facebook today and tried my hands on a Quiz, that my friend took and it was there on my notifications. I seriously never get an idea why do they keep hurling our feeds with notifications? Worse still is the fact that you are unable to identify what to block and what not to?

Coming back to the quiz. I was taken a back when I finished the quiz and when the time comes to recommend the app to friends I couldn’t see the button or link to skip the step! So what’s the big deal? Well I was only displayed three options that said:

  • Recommend to friends who like quizzes.
  • Random 24 Friends.
  • Select who to invite or not invite.

Ridiculing to say the least. Now I know many of my friends would spend every second to take those use quizzes, but I don’t like how this app in particular is assuming that I would want to invite friends? Make that even worse, the second option talks of spreading the word to 24 random friends. Isn’t that too dictatorial? Making you a possible spammer? Where is that skip option?

That is just one such app out there out of the countless and each one uses numerous ways to get traction and make it to the walls. Other than that these apps grow exponentially, we have reported of the many already. Now an occasional, or to put it more appropriately: seasonal apps going viral are quite digestible for they disappear with time, but more sinister developers are beginning to take undue advantage of the API to shoot to fame. I find this absolutely annoying for it drives me crazy using Facebook. I just hope Facebook gets its act straight and does something about all the annoyance these apps, especially spammy ones cause, seriously.
