Steve Jobs went on stage at the Lets Rock Event in San Francisco to announce a new iTunes, iPod Nano, iPod Touch and a iPhone bug fix. We would now take a look at each of these announcements one by one.
iTunes 8: The first announcement of the day was the release of iTunes 8. The new version of iTunes makes songs more accessible through tiled browsing and more visible track album cover. In addition to this, NBC and Apple are in bed once again and starting today users can also buy HD episodes of TV shows for $2.99. The shows include Monk, The Office, Battlestar Galactica, 30 Rock, and Heroes.
iPod Classic: The iPod Classic has also received a bit of revamping at the Lets Rock Event and from today onwards Apple would ship a 120GB model for $250 and have discontinued the 160GB model altogether. So in the Classic category Apple is now banking on the one size fits all policy to toe in with Microsoft’s Zune.
iPod Nano: The most important announcement to come out of the event was the new iPod Nano product line. The new iPod Nano is the thinnest model ever made by Apple. The model sports a curved body and screen. In addition to this the model has a new updated interface that mimics the iPhone and iPod Touch and has a new voice recording feature to go along with it.
But the coolest feature of all, shake to shuffle, is not visible from the get go. All you need to do now to move on to the next track is to shake the iPod a bit and here you go. Apple is one company that has really figured out how to use accelerometers.
The new iPod Nano’s would be available in 8Gb – $149, and 16Gb – $199 versions and would be available from next week. The new models would come with a new line of headphones that will allow users to control the player right off the cord. Attached with this is a price tag of $80.
iPod Touch: Another announcement regarding the iPod line was the reduction in size and upgradation in power of the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch would be shipped for $229 for the 8GB version, $299 for the 16GB version and $399 for the 32Gb version. The new model sports integrated volume controls along with built-in speakers and has access to games on the App store.
OX X 2.1: Apple has also released version 2.1 of OS X 2.1 for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The release will fix most of the issues in iPhone pertaining to crashes, call dropping and reception. The release is free for people having version 2.0 but would cost $9.99 for upgradation from earlier versions.
And last but not the least, Steve Jobs commented on his health rumors.
