Apple has finally arrived to the point where it will have Digital Rights Management-free music in its iTunes store through iTunes Plus. The current music selection at the time is weak as compared to AmazoMP3 store. But as Amazon has all major labels under its belt that supply DRM-free tracks, Apple only has EMI as its DRM-free track supplier. Though news has it that Sony BMG is soon to come on Apple’s panel and add to its DRM-free list, but then again, it’s only a hunch.
All this puts Apple behind in the list, and it needs to make a big break if it wants iTunes to bounce back again. Also, Steve Jobs would be biting his nails as he promised to make half of the iTunes selections DRM-free by the end of 2007.
