It has been reported by Erick Schonfeld (TechCrunch) that Seesmic has raised $6 million dollars more in its series B funding jointly led by Omidyar Network and Wellington Partners. It has previously raised the same amount in Series A financing in February that included investors; Reid Hoffman, Steve Case, Jeff Clavier, Ron Conway, Martin Varsavsky and led by Atomico.
The company that also owns Twhirl, a desktop client for Twitter and FriendFeed is designed to allow users to have video conversations within loose social groups. The idea has attracted 21,000 users since its launch as private alpha October last with average daily video posts of 2,500. With its success as a private alpha, Seesmic has now opened itself to every user.
With progress in their minds, Seesmic plans at enabling users to record their Skype conversations, chats and video and will incorporate RSS feeds, the likes of those in Facebook’s newsfeed and eventually turning it into a crowd-sourced online TV with revenues being shared with the most popular producers.
