Who said Facebook was more centered at fun, brand promotion and a place to fund a campaign only? Well no one did, but just in case anyone would ever think of it, the social network is taking a step further, as it announced the Facebook Fellowship program. Nothing short of making the social network appear ever more sane for the world around and adding more meaning to itself.
The program is meant to be for Ph.D students who are keen to learn internet technology and the science of social media and is being offered for the students of the year 2010-2011. The program would provide the listed students with a $30,000 stipend over 9 months added to the $5,000 a year each for attending conferences and travel expenses, as well as to fund your own personal computer. Facebook is primarily accepting students in the following fields of study:
-
Social Computing
-
Systems
-
Internet Economics
-
Information Retrieval
-
Machine Learning and Data mining
-
Cloud Computing
The opportunity is great for Ph.D students till February 15, which is the deadline for applications. The confirmation would be given to students who are accepted in the program on 29th March. The competition will definitely be tough and a lot would depend on your research, a 2 page summary of which is to be attached along with your application. I wish I could avail the opportunity at this very moment, but I guess I will have to wait for sometime. But for those of you who had been waiting for this, I would suggest they visit the Career’s Page immediately and get started with things.
