An iPhone app by Amazon is launching tomorrow. The app will allow shoppers to take a picture of anything and buy it through Amazon. The app works through a complex algorithm which analyzes pixels and determines the product in the photo. The photo is sent over to Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, from where it is analyzed and matched with the products available on Amazon.com. The results are then forwarded back taking between 5 minutes to 24 hours.
The app provides iPhone or iPod Touch owners to browse through Amazon.com, as well as checkout stuff at Target and Macy’s. This is certainly a nice way to attract shoppers onto Amazon.
