Content delivery network Akamai Technologies provided stats showing that 7.7 million video streams took place, of which a higher number included live streaming.

As the proceedings unfolded, most people in the U.S. were at work, and hence the streaming alternative was chosen. Akamai’s executive VP of global sales and marketing, Robert Hughes stated:

With the inauguration occurring during workday hours in the U.S., we witnessed record numbers of live streams served in support of many leading news businesses.
