The home link takes you back to your homepage. You can see it in the image 'home or logout'. The reason it's not posting your message is because it probably didn't pass one of the tests, we haven't added the part that alerts you of an error here but we will in the next few hours. To get friends you can find them through the feeds, posts, networks and we're adding a search for friends. Then you go to their user page and under their image you should see a small icon with a plus sign. Click that and you will be added to that users pending list. Once they approve you, you will show up as their friend and they will show up as your friend.
