Due to serious vulnerabilities in Reader and Acrobat, Adobe has released a security update on Monday. The vulnerability which is defined as CVE-2008-2641, is now circulating on the internet.
According to Adobe, if this vulnerability is exploited, it may crash the system. Adobe’s website reads:
A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.2. This vulnerability would cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
Following software versions are affected by the update:
Adobe Reader 8.0 through 8.1.2
Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and earlier
Adobe Acrobat Professional, 3D and Standard 8.0 through 8.1.2
Adobe Acrobat Professional, 3D and Standard 7.0.9 and earlier
Adobe Reader 7.1.0 and Adobe 7.1.0 are not affected by the update. Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat 9, which are expected to be released by July, 2008, also won’t have such issues.
