If you thought that the Web has had enough of these URL shorteners, think again as it hasn’t. Br.st joins the bandwagon, coming from the web hosting startup Brinkster. The service does what every other service in the category does and provides you stats which include hits, referrers, etc. But I sort of like the interface, at least it isn’t as dead as the many link shorteners in business. I am not sure how far it is going to go but this is definitely my preferred one for the time being and I wish it best to keep so in times to come.
There is a new issue with Google Voice or should I say an existing issue that surfaces apart from is rejection from the iPhone. Presently users have reported that each call they make using the application is terminated after 15 minutes. Now 15 minutes is a good enough time for a call but the automated termination leaves one questioning the quality of the service. I am not sure if many out there would even notice this, especially those like me for whom a call is not a marathon to compete in. But still Google needs to get its act sorted and not lose credibility.
Solvate bagged $2.3 Million in its current round of funding for its virtual service that provides pay as you go service. The service puts requests for assistance by offering consulting services to small businesses. Plus its feed also features lists of job vacancies which include those related to helping firms to set up international wireless service and to assist companies switch from one email service to another. I hope the startup is able to solve its financial issues if it has any with the current round of funding.
A tedious task indeed it is to create an expense report in Excel. Specially your travel expenses are hard to keep a track of and most of all to make a report. As it is time consuming and hectic to turn over the bills paid in cash and to follow bank records for your credit card transactions. This is not a blog to sympathize those organizations and individuals who experience this. But to introduce to them a vital service that can save them from all this cumbersome task, provided by ExpenseBay.com. The site aims to automate your expense reports without consuming your time.
While technology is expanding hard and fast with the web playing the most vital part in conveying information on anything, be it Twitter being used to break news of an earthquake, etc. There is however a shame that in certain regions of the world big shots will game on people’s lives. The reality TV shows have become quite a norm, challenging people to do the impossible but almost all of them have a very high standard of safety precautions to avoid any mishap. But they were sadly not available for Saad Khan from Pakistan who lost his life in all this. The 32 year old guy with four kids was given an under water challenge, where he lost control and could not be recovered. The game was sponsored by the big names in the corporate world, Unilever and produced by MindShare and despite their reputation they had no methods to save this young man and reports state he was under water for 6 minutes.
Of course this news is completely off the grid of what we cover at Startup Meme, but as a responsible person I feel it to be my duty to report this to the International Community and my fellow bloggers so that the authorities take due notice. What needs to be done is that there should be strict accountability on what exactly were the safety procedures and did they actually meet the standards followed by other reality shows? I fail to understand the lack of availability of the basic necessities and why it took them so long to provide medical aid to the young man.
If you are out of cash and doing very poor business, what’s one thing you will do? Most probably lookout for items/property to sell and pocket some cash. This is exactly what Blockbuster is up to, the firm has sold Xtra-vision for $45 Million in order to bring home some cash, which is much needed to stay in competition. Xtra-vision is a chain of around 200 retail locations in Ireland and the sell off quite rightly means that Blockbuster is more interested focusing its business in the U.S instead of scrambling all across the globe. Sounds good enough but will this really work for them in the long run? I guess Blockbuster has to move ahead of its rental by mail service and adopt a more competitive dynamics to remain profitable.
Online clothes shopping site, myShape has raised a new round of funding that is close to the $10.5 Million in value. The site provides options/tips upon been given the measurements by users along with their preferences of the fashion and fitting they like. myShape has been shaping up pretty well since the past one year as its traffic has almost doubled and has continued to raise healthy rounds. I am not quite sure if this is the actual amount they wanted to raise as the company had been eying more than $16 Million, so far none of the representatives have confirmed and we will update once we get more news.
