There is a lot of money for domain names, especially the .com ones. We reported the acquisition of Candy for $3 Million and today Call.com bagged $1.1 Million. The domain was sold by Live Current Media, however the buyer’s name remains undisclosed. The sell out is part of the package which includes Exercise.com, Makeup.com and Automobile.com and Live Current will get royalties from the revenue each domain generates. Quite a healthy deal to be honest and money is coming in bulk to such domain names.

While there is a lot that Google needs to do to improve Google Translate it continues to add more languages to its service. It’s definitely not the perfect tool but I find it very useful when it comes to going about with translation of words or phrases and even a site in another language. The service has now taken the number of languages to 51, adding nine more. Those languages include Belarusian, Icelandic, Malay, Swahili, Welsh, Yiddish, Afrikaans and Irish. Google has been expanding its features and services quite speedily and had added support for translation to its Toolbar, Gmail and even Docs and thought the translation is still quite basic it does the job pretty well.
Yahoo pulls down shutters on another one of its service, SpotM. The social network had been launched in India almost a year back but it appears the social network failed to make the sort of progress it should have to satisfy Yahoo. It is surprising however that social networks in India always find some sort of traction and are quite popular and SpotM did offer a bit of unique services which included letting users correspond via SMS without the need to share phone numbers. I guess despite all its efforts it just couldn’t rise up to challenge the dominating social networks which include the likes of Orkut and Facebook. The social network will go off on September 1, in a few hours from now.
We will be seeing some interesting things or to be more precise characters coming to the action packed Marvel comics. Why? Because Walt Disney has agreed to buy Marvel Entertainment for a healthy $4 Billion in stock and cash. The deal which has been approved will now add more than 5,000 Marvel characters to Disney’s portfolio and it already sounds interesting, Wolverine with Pluto as pet, Spider Man teaming with Mickey Mouse and all sorts of crazy teams keep revolving in my head. However the deal would benefit both parties to a large extend, expanding Disney’s library of characters and giving Marvel to work and expand its characters in an all out different category.

Looks like Google employees aren’t just wanted in the Web/software based firms only and even industry giants appreciate their expertise. Tesla Motors currently hired Ricardo Reyes as its first VP of communications. Reyes has had been heading YouTube’s public affairs and communications. I hope this turns out equally good for Tesla and they are able to tap maximum out of the YouTube exec.
Every day it appears that Google Chrome OS heads closer to reality as more screen shots surface. The browser based operating system has been in talks for more than a month. I am not sure if these screenshots are real but we will take any and every thing associated to the reported OS. To be honest, the very simple icons, etc appear Googlish enough to be true which makes these screenshots pretty close to being of the real OS, but I will rather wait than go ahead and confirm these to be real photos.
Batman Arkham Asylum launched earlier this week on PS3 and XBox 360 has made its niche in the Guinness World Record archive as the greatest critically acclaimed game ever attaining 91.7 % in the reviews around the globe. According to Guinness it is a fantastic game, getting its feedback from the experts around. Hence it rightly deserves the place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The game offers some enthralling combat with stealthy adventures of the legendary Dark Knight against the vicious villains including Quinn, The Joker and many more. Such a bench mark achieved by this game really calls me to grab it off the shelf for my PS3.
RollingStone.com is finally going back to Wenner Media after being under RealNetworks. Wenner Media will be relaunching the site sometime next year after being running under RealNetworks’ banner for around five years. RealNetworks had been running its own ads on the site along with links to Rhapsody Music and it remains to be seen if Wenner Media will actually go ahead with this partnership. To be honest, it’s a big task ahead for Wenner Media and I am not sure if it will actually go beyond despite the name it has to push out to the general music audience.
What is bad about textual communication is that it you can’t really show your emotions, which often leads to quite a dry conversation or message. Facesforce is a startup that feels that same and has therefore added more by letting you create media rich messages. This can be really helpful if you are explaining a concept to someone via texts, which is quite difficult, what Facesforce lets you do is simply add portfolio images and photos and share it with recipients. Plus it’s all secure as you can add password security to ensure privacy. So if you had complains on being unable to fully express yourself, give Faceforce a try I bet it’s going to be quite useful and it’s not just photos, but videos go along smoothly as well.
