The partnership between Microsoft and Digg, which was supposed to be for three years has been put off by Digg, a full year short of the agreement. Why? Well Digg is more interested in utilizing its own sales force for the ad business. This break up isn’t due to any harsh feelings between the two, but plainly because both parties believed that Digg would eventually be able to get along selling its own ads, independently. The move was shaping up when Digg hired its first sales exec, Thomas Shin, a former Yahoo sales exec. This had to happen eventually, give that Digg has grown large enough to capitalize on its own sales team. Well now Digg has all the possibilities to tap maximum revenue working alone at this.

After all the noise IBM created with its acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle set to buy Sun has taken me by surprise. I guess Sun Microsystems knew that it was worth more than IBM’s $6.5 billion bid, which is why Oracle’s $7.4 billion acquisition is something that Sun couldn’t put down. This one sounds like much intelligent acquisition as Sun Microsystems boasts software like Java and Solaris, while Oracle’s own Fusion Middleware has been developed on Java. Oracle’s CEO, Larry Ellison stated in the release:

I seriously wish I start a dedicated blog to cover URL shortening services on the web. I understand there is always a room for another, but seriously URL shortening services are overpopulating the web. The most recent addition to the list is UnHub. If you have yourself registered, all you have to do is simply place your URL next to unhub.com and it generates a shortened URL. When users hit the link, the website opens with an iframe which gives them additional information like the number of times the site has bee digged, bookmarked on Delicious, etc. I can bet this isn’t the last one in the list and that I will be covering will be a couple more surfacing before the day ends.
I was seriously tired of deciphering the Captchas often, Google has taken a new approach to them. Google is testing a new method that would require users to put pictures in an upright position. The process includes pictures that can’t be oriented directly by a computer and are equally difficult for a human to place upright as well. The team has released three samples that show images testing different images.
Finally the US’ president Barrack Obama appointed the country’s first CTO and no it’s not Eric Schmidt. President Obama made Aneesh Chopra, Virginia Secretary of Technology the first CTO. He had been behind quite a lot of initiatives, specially those associated at promoting education via modern techniques. He is also the one encouraging developers to create middle school math applications for the App Store. His job would be to promote tech innovation and achieve the most basic objectives which include creating job opportunities and minimizing costs for health care.
Photo sharing is synonymous with the Web and people need the best service to do that. While there are plenty of services that offer the same, there is always a room for one more, which is why Microsoft has put out DeepZoomPix. It lets share images (obviously) plus you can take advantage of its zoom option, which is pretty good. If you are a Microsoft fan this one is definitely what you would like to use. As for those who would like to have an alternative, there is Closr.it to do the same. I hope our readers wont mind my self promotion here.
